Making Art: photography, my gallery, and a rambling discourse

Rich's Photo GalleryHi. My name is Rich and I'm a tortured artist.

The Confession

Well, really, I'm more tortured, than artistic. And it may be argued that the artistic is more artifice than artful. But I try, nonetheless.

Folks who don't know me well (meaning just about everybody) don't realize I have this creative half that doesn't wield its powers in the company of friends and coworkers until long after we meet. In fact, not knowing myself as well as I ought, even I remained largely unaware of this need to create until the beast was unleashed during my final year of high school. My more "public" facing personna tends to be bookish, I suppose — and there's a good reason for that: I'm rarely without a book. Even in good company.

Not quite a misanthrope…

As long as I'm in the

Sorry for the thrashing around on the blog lately. I've got too many plugins running here, so I'm pulling a lot of stuff off the server, cleaning junk up, and trying to get things running faster, faster, faster. This'll probably mean another change in themes. Whatever theme you see now is likely just a placeholder.

Thank you for your patience!

Rich.

I thought I’d take a look back on the last six months, since I began blogging here, and see which of my posts received the most attention from you, my patient readers. The results are in, and I am dutifully sharing them, despite the fact that this post will only serve to draw more attention away from my other, equally deserving but under-noticed, blogerature. (Yes, I know. It's not a word.)

Robertson’s irrational God. (Oh, and Intelligent Design, too.)

My colleague, Ted Olsen over at CT’s Weblog, posted terse and apt commentary on the latest Pat Robertson gaffe. When things don’t go God’s Robertson’s way, he gets grumpy.

Is he on medication? If not, he should be. (Robertson, that is. Not Olsen.) He definitely should not have a public forum.

Here’s the latest from Pat Robertson, in reaction to the Dover school board elections and the Intelligent Design brouhaha:

“I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for his help because

A blog for those who haven’t yet believed–ultimate points for penultimate people

Friend and CTI coworker, Craig Brian Larson, has started his own blog: “The Ultimate Issue,” an evangelistic companion-piece to his witnessing efforts.

Now, Brian’s an interesting guy: He’s a quiet, unassuming pastor at an Assemblies of God storefront church in the heart of Chicago. To meet him you wouldn’t know he’s the editorial force behind one of the best preaching resources on the planet: PreachingToday.com.

Yes, I work for the company that hosts and profits from that site, but I don’t profit from mentioning it. I do, however, really believe that if you’re preaching, you need to pay attention to the stuff that Brian’s working on. (That includes the book I mentioned in a previous post). But, if you think of him as a leader of preachers you might not easily think of him standing near a crowded Chicago sidewalk engaging individuals in one-on-one conversation, and passing literature
