An historian who traveled from Palestine to Rome in the mid-second century. The first to outline the argument founded on the Rule of Faith, intended to combat the gnostic teachers, who claimed that they alone had true revelation handed down from the apostles themselves. He drew up a succession of lists of bishops, going back to the apostles for Corinth and Rome.
