George Whitefield
An early leader of the Evangelical Awakening with John Wesley. Joined Wesley’s Bible study group at Oxford when he left Pembroke College. Followed Wesley to America in 1738, but returned to London that Fall for ordination to ministry. Began preaching in February 1739. His emphasis on the doctrine of predestination clashed with Wesley’s "Arminianism" and threatened their friendly relations.
